Tamiya TLT-1

Micro-T

The TLT-1 Rock Buster was released in 2003, the first small-scale RC in Tamiya's modern era. It's intriguing little truck designed to be a sort of miniature version of the venerable TXT-1. It features solid axles, a twin vertical plate chassis, and 4-link suspension with cantilevered shocks. Though the truck is somewhat small, it uses a full-sized 540 motor mounted in the belly of the chassis. An unusual belt setup transfers power to a center differential, which has outdrives that spin metal dogbones to send torque to either axle. The truck can be easily configured for 4WS (four wheel steering). Articulation is good, which led many hobbyists to toy with small-scale rock crawling at a fraction of the cost of a traditional Clod Buster-based rig. Locking the center diff, lengthening the wheelbase and swapping out the tires were the first essential modifications, but before long, an entirely new phenomenon was underway as the new "2.2" rock crawler explosion of the mid 2000's took shape. (The "2.2" designation refers to 2.2 inches, the size of the 1/10th scale stadium truck wheels the TLT-1 could use to fit grippier tires.)
