Kyosho Half-8 (Mini Inferno) EP
![]() |
Kyosho created quite a stir when they unveiled the Mini Inferno, calling the series Half-8 because the 1/16th scale made it very near half the size of the wildly successful nitro racing buggy. Though what clearly looks like a Kanai green engine head is visible along with an exhaust tip on one side, these are in fact props, for looks only, as the original Mini Inferno was strictly electric. The Mini Inferno 09 nitro-powered version came later.
Stock battery accomodations were for 6 AA's arranged in two sets. Aftermarket companies didn't take long to release rechargable high-current NiMH packs, and today LiPos are commonly available as well.
Though it's a great-looking vehicle, the Mini Inferno proved quite slow in stock form and durability was less than ideal (stripped diffs were common), and as a result its popularity bloomed only in small pockets around the world and aftermarket support was modest.
